Inscribed Text Pillar. Georgian is written in its own alphabet, one of only a handful in the world; its three scripts — Asomtavruli, Nuskhuri and Mkhedruli — are on UNESCO’s heritage list. Lines of carved text cover this part of the pillar, like a page from a book in stone. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, rebuilt in the 11th century, is said to keep the robe of Christ — for Georgians it is the “Life-Giving Pillar” of the church.
