Chronicle of Georgia: Pillars and Visitors on the Plaza
Pillars and Visitors on the Plaza. Sixteen pillars between 30 and 35 metres tall form the memorial — the upper tiers show the life of Christ, the lower ones Georgia’s kings, queens and heroes. A 360° view from the upper plaza, where the giant pillars stand in a ring on the summit of the hill. Shota Rustaveli wrote “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” in the 12th century and dedicated it to Queen Tamar — the national epic every Georgian knows by heart.
