Chronicle of Georgia: Plaza View Between the Pillars
Plaza View Between the Pillars. There are no tickets or gates: the memorial is an open-air museum, and evenings often bring families, skaters and photographers to the plaza. A 360° view from the upper plaza, where the giant pillars stand in a ring on the summit of the hill. In the reign of Queen Tamar the cave city of Vardzia grew into a monastery carved hundreds of rooms deep into a cliff above the Mtkvari.
