Jvari Monastery: Beside the Apses on the Cliff Edge
Beside the Apses on the Cliff Edge. A narrow terrace with a railing runs right beside the massive curved apses, with Mtskheta spread out beyond. The church stands right at the edge of a rocky cliff, its east end rising almost straight out of the rock above the valley. The church is a tetraconch: four apses around a central dome, with deep round niches tucked between them — a compact, perfectly balanced plan.
