Church from the Upper Path. From the upper path the church shows its tall walls, narrow windows and the drum of the dome against the sky. The dome rests on squinches — small arches across the corners — a technique that let the builders set a round drum over a square space. Historians count Jvari among the masterpieces of early medieval architecture — a building where engineering, proportion and landscape work as one.
