Cliff-Edge Viewpoint. At the cliff edge the rivers, the town and the hills unfold below — the classic view from Jvari. Mikhail Lermontov opened his poem “Mtsyri” (1839) with this very landscape: the place where the Aragvi and the Kura embrace below an old monastery. The Mtkvari flows on through Tbilisi and across Azerbaijan to the Caspian Sea — the main river of the South Caucasus.
