Jvari Monastery: Courtyard and Visitors by the Church
Courtyard and Visitors by the Church. The paved courtyard around the church, where visitors stroll beneath an old tree before going inside. Jvari is a working monastery: visitors are asked to dress modestly, and women traditionally cover their heads before entering the church. Mtskheta is often called Georgia’s holy city: the country’s Christian history began here, and its churches are still places of pilgrimage.
