Descent past the Tower Ruin. The path drops away from the church past the ruined tower, with the river valley wide open below. From this crag watchmen could follow every road along both valleys — one reason the hill was fortified for centuries. The Mtkvari flows on through Tbilisi and across Azerbaijan to the Caspian Sea — the main river of the South Caucasus.
