Jvari Monastery: High Drone Orbit from the North-West
High Drone Orbit from the North-West. A higher drone orbit about 23 m above the hilltop, looking at the church from the north-west with both river valleys around it. Jvari means “cross” in Georgian: by tradition Saint Nino raised a great wooden cross on this hilltop in the 4th century, after King Mirian III accepted Christianity. The church is a tetraconch: four apses around a central dome, with deep round niches tucked between them — a compact, perfectly balanced plan.
