Jvari Monastery: High Drone Orbit from the South-West above the Cliff
High Drone Orbit from the South-West above the Cliff. A higher drone orbit about 28 m above the hilltop, looking at the church from the south-west with both river valleys around it. The church stands right at the edge of a rocky cliff, its east end rising almost straight out of the rock above the valley. Jvari means “cross” in Georgian: by tradition Saint Nino raised a great wooden cross on this hilltop in the 4th century, after King Mirian III accepted Christianity.
