Main Parking Area. The open parking area where cars and tour vans arrive, with the old fortress walls and the hill road in view. Jvari is about 20 km north of Tbilisi, an easy half-day trip that pairs naturally with a walk through Mtskheta’s old streets. Jvari is a working monastery: visitors are asked to dress modestly, and women traditionally cover their heads before entering the church.
