Jvari Monastery: Overlook above the River Confluence
Overlook above the River Confluence. Visitors gather at the low wall to look down on the meeting of the rivers, with the church rising behind them. Below the cliff the Aragvi and the Mtkvari (Kura) rivers meet — and on many days you can see their two different colours flowing side by side. Mikhail Lermontov opened his poem “Mtsyri” (1839) with this very landscape: the place where the Aragvi and the Kura embrace below an old monastery.
