South Portal and Stone Porch. The carved stone porch and the doorway on the south side, where the church’s best-known relief is set above the portal. Carved reliefs decorate the facades: donor figures on the east side and, over the south portal, angels raising the cross — the Exaltation of the Cross. Old Georgian inscriptions in the Asomtavruli script on the facades name the church’s builders and patrons, among them Stepanoz, Demetre and Adarnase.
