Stone Path from the Parking. A wide path of irregular stone slabs leads from the cars toward the monastery, with an information board at its edge. Jvari means “cross” in Georgian: by tradition Saint Nino raised a great wooden cross on this hilltop in the 4th century, after King Mirian III accepted Christianity. Since 1994 Jvari has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Historical Monuments of Mtskheta”, together with Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Samtavro Monastery.
