Stone Steps up to the Church. Wide stone steps lead up the last rise to the church, framed by the branches of an old tree. The cross on the hill was believed to work miracles, and pilgrims from across the Caucasus climbed here to pray long before the stone church existed. Saint Nino, venerated as Equal-to-the-Apostles, is honoured as the enlightener of Georgia; her grapevine cross remains the symbol of the Georgian Church.
