Ruined Gateway in Early Summer. The ruined tower stumps of the old gateway, now surrounded by fresh greenery and summer flowers. From this crag watchmen could follow every road along both valleys — one reason the hill was fortified for centuries. Through invasions, earthquakes and the Soviet decades the church survived with remarkably few changes, which is why scholars value it so highly.
