Upper Path beside the Church. The stone path curves past the church and the ruins toward the edge of the hill and its wide view. On a clear day the panorama takes in Mtskheta, both river valleys and the hills toward the Caucasus — one of the finest viewpoints in Georgia. In the Middle Ages the hilltop was enclosed by a stone defensive wall with towers and a gate; its weathered ruins still line the paths around the church.
