Wooden Deck before the Entrance. A wooden deck with railings stands before the entrance, between the church walls and the valley edge. Jvari is a working monastery: visitors are asked to dress modestly, and women traditionally cover their heads before entering the church. Inside, under the dome, stands the great octagonal stone base that, by tradition, once held Saint Nino’s wooden cross.
